Media channels

How media-only, flash, and bot-chat modes work, and what each allows.

Media-only channels

Media stays, chat goes. Marshal handles the sorting.

  • Allowed to remain: image, video, or audio attachments, genuine media embeds, and direct-media links. Ordinary page previews are not media.
  • Never removed: thread messages and bot messages.
  • Everything else: removed silently, plus a posting lockout that escalates 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, then 5 minutes. The ladder resets after 30 clean minutes.
  • Routine violations get no extra quips or removal DMs. The channel rules are the reminder.

Posting limits apply in the main channel only, not in threads:

  • Items per post: default 5 (0 = unlimited). Breaking the cap earns a lockout.
  • Slow mode: default 1 post per 5 minutes (0 = off). Scope is global or per-member depending on the channel.
  • The post that fills the window immediately locks posting by permissions: a full global window denies @everyone, a full individual window denies only that member. Slow mode is enforced up front.
  • A post that races the lock is removed without a posting lockout.
  • Deleting your own post frees the slow-mode slot. A removed rule-breaking post never consumes one.
  • The sticky always reflects the live limits.

Flash channels

Temporary sharing, one upload at a time.

  • Valid media uploads poof after the flash window (default 2 minutes, 1 to 60 per channel) with a live countdown.
  • The moment an upload goes live, uploading is disabled for the channel. One at a time, enforced by permissions up front.
  • Links, embeds, and non-media uploads are removed silently and earn the same escalating posting lockout as media-only violations.
  • An upload that races the permission lock is removed without a lockout.
  • Flash-only: plain text may remain. A channel that is both media-only and flash follows media rules (no plain chat), and allowed uploads still poof.

Bot-chat channels

Two kinds of message survive here: a member's ! or ? line that a bot answers within a few seconds, and anything posted by a bot.

  • Everything else is removed silently and earns the same escalating posting lockout as media-only violations.
  • Slash commands are interactions, so they are not deleted.
  • Threads are left alone, as in media-only channels.
  • Bot-chat cannot combine with media-only or flash.
  • The optional Command Menu button on the sticky lists this bot's member commands privately, with a button link to this web dashboard when the server has one.

When a message is removed, you receive a short notice. The sticky always shows the live rules.
